BEYOND THE CLASSROOM -
BEHIND THE SCENES |
Judy Sande,
Administrative Assistant
- The books your children use are in the classroom as a result of a
painstaking examination process by members of our curriculum staff.
We only use instructional materials that support our learning outcomes.
- Children with special needs can receive special help through our
special education program, which is designed to provide a tailor-made
education for identified youngsters in the least restrictive environment.
- Children who are below grade level in math or language arts may also get
help through funded remedial education programs. Our Special
Programs staff prepare the applications for these funds, maintain required
records and progress reports, track supplies and materials, and develop new
programs & strategies.
- Our schools and grounds are maintained by skilled men and women
who utilize a variety of talents. Our maintenance staff members are
responsible for keeping the plumbing in working order, repairing windows and
locks, maintaining our fields and grounds, keeping heating and ventilating
systems at the right temperature, building new cabinets and bookshelves, and
making sure our thousands of lights and other electrical items stay on when
they should.
- You see our yellow school buses often, but did you ever stop to think
about what it takes to keep them running day-after-day, year-after-year?
Our skilled mechanics are able to keep them safely on the road. Mt
Baker buses travel more than 2,500 miles per month! Behind-the-scenes people
also determine safe locations for hundreds of bus stops.
- Hot, nutritious school breakfast and lunch are available in our schools,
thanks to the cooks and other food service personnel who start their
day in the early morning hours to prepare meals for your children.
- Others in the district hire people and maintain their records, pay
the bills, purchase supplies and materials, plan for future programs and
needs, work with community organizations and agencies, oversee the use and
development of fields and buildings, provide information, coordinate
volunteers, make sure substitutes are available when needed, and develop and
monitor the budget.
These staff may not be as visible as your child’s teachers, but they all play
an important role in your child’s education.
