Mt. Baker School District Community: It is after much thought that I have decided to retire at the end of this school year. As I look back upon my career in education, I find it hard to believe that I have been in the business for 37 years. What is more amazing is that 28 of those years have been right here in the Mt. Baker School District. I clearly remember the phone call from Bill Boulton offering me the 5th Grade teaching position at Acme Elementary back in 1980. I yelped with excitement. He teased me for years. I feel privileged to have been involved in the amazing changes in education and the Mt. Baker School District. I marvel at the variety of opportunities that have been available to me as a classroom teacher and as an administrator. I was fortunate to have the support and encouragement of dedicated supervisors and colleagues. I feel honored to become part of a community that supports their children and their schools. I have looked forward to coming to school every single day. Mt. Baker School District is a great place to teach and learn. As I thought through this decision, you can be assured that I am not planning to wander far from education. I am actually looking for a way to return to classroom teaching in some capacity. My first love is the classroom. The immediate feedback that only a teacher can receive is addictive. I am excited about the possibilities. It’s a new chapter waiting to be written. Ellyn Erickson
