Why don’t you
contact parents when children receive awards at assemblies so they can be
present?
In the past we
have initiated a number of plans to notify parents of upcoming awards. The
success of those plans was not consistent. We were able to contact some, but
not all parents. This created hurt feelings and misunderstandings. The staff
had also become concerned that the EOM Assemblies had become too long and were
crowding classroom instruction time. Over the past two years we have condensed
the End of the Month Assembly and have the classroom teachers present the Acme
All Star Awards in the classroom, as well as the Blue Slip Winners. At the
Assembly we simply read off the names and celebrate the winners as a group. The
names are listed in the Monday Notes for public recognition. The honored
students each receive a book provided by the Acme PTA, as well as the
ever-popular “Refrigerator Ready Certificate.”
