- Acme teacher hiring questions Several questions in the recent communications survey were about staff and hiring. Parents seem to think that our new staff members are recent graduates and without teaching experience. The other questions were about the few males on staff. The hiring practices for the Mt. Baker School District are very comprehensive. Last year we had over 150 applicants for the few elementary teaching positions open. Our task is always to find the best possible mix of teaching experience, style, attitude and skill to fit our students. Elementary teachers are hired by a district committee that selects teachers for the Mt. Baker School District and then for a particular building. In reality, last year only one elementary teacher hired was without classroom experience beyond their internship. The experience ranged from several months as a long-term replacement teacher to many years of teaching. The
question about the number of men teaching at Acme is reflective of the number of
men seeking elementary teaching positions.
We will continue to seek the best qualified teachers for the Mt. Baker
School District. Your children
deserve the very best.
