ACME
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL |
What is the school
reading program?
At this
time the MBSD Literacy Committee is revising and rewriting the Elementary
Reading Curriculum. At Acme Elementary School we use a combination of reading
textbooks published by the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Publishing Company and trade
books. The trade books are leveled to fit the ability of the students. They
are a variety of Fiction and Non-fiction titles. Students may use them
individually or in “Book Clubs” that are structured to fit the reading levels of
the students. Teachers use a variety of strategies to instruct our students.
Our goal is to provide a balance of phonics, sight words, words in context,
auditory cues, and other strategies to help students unlock the written word.
As we move toward a district wide adaptation of reading instruction, we will
keep you informed about the materials and strategies being implemented in our
classrooms.
