- Is our building safe? A
number of questions have been raised about the Acme School building.
One was about the safety of the building during an earthquake.
This building has weathered the quakes of '49, '64, '90 and '01.
The structure of the building is very solid and has been identified as
seismically sound. The brick façade
has the potential of cracking and falling from the exterior walls.
In the recent quake we remained indoors and in our classrooms until the
exterior was examined from the ground and the rooftops.
Our commitment to effective and efficient emergency drills assured the
quick and appropriate response of staff and students.
Another concern has been with the presence of asbestos containing materials. A recent parent letter from Frank Cain, Transportation and Maintenance Supervisor, identified the areas where those materials are found and that they are all currently contained. That letter went home with students on March 2, 2001. If it did not reach you, please contact the school for another. There is no danger of the asbestos fibers entering the environment. The safety of your children is of the utmost importance to all of us here at Acme Elementary School. Please, feel free to contact Mrs. Erickson at Acme School or Frank Cain in Transportation if you have further questions about earthquake or asbestos safety in our building.
