Members Present: Erika Alexander, Chris Murray, Shannon Brilhart, Ellyn Erickson, Bob Baker, Lillian Green, Linda Nieuwendorp

Members Absent: Tom Smith,

Guests Present: none

Due to the Bus in the Ditch crisis, we began later than usual.  A big thank you to all the ASC Members who helped contact parents and assure them that students were safe and arriving a bit later than usual today.

New Items:

1.       Students are not getting to the appropriate places after school with notes.  Walkers, Bus Riders, Bike Riders, Parent Pick up are all areas of concern.  We discussed a number of strategies to help alleviate the difficulty.  Ellyn will draft a plan incorporating the ideas discussed today.  Staff will review and determine the final plan.

2.     Lockdown Drill Evaluation - There were a couple of trouble spots that will be addressed with staff:

Wait time - The caller to the rooms needs to allow wait time for responses from the classrooms about adults who are there.

Comfort - Students need to be prone and quiet, but not uncomfortable as they wait.  It could be a long time.  The teachers need to be sensitive about the ability for children to lie with out moving at all.

Fear - We need to be sensitive to the fears of children during the drill.  It is ok to say, "This is practice, just like a fire drill.  We will all be ok."  Some students were confused and fearful of the drill once it started.

Open Spaces - there were a number of questions about what to do when students are in the gym for lunch or PE.  Also what to do if a class is out side at recess or PE?  Ellyn will check with the other buildings to determine what procedures they have developed for those students.

In Process:

EOT Activities were discussed again.  The November Event is being presented by members of the Nooksack Indian Tribe.  Because November is Native American Indian Heritage Month, we have  participation from the tribe in our Veteran's Day Assembly, EOM Activity Day as well as the EOT Big Event.

Veteran's Day - Tribal Veterans will be here to share their experiences in the armed services, all Americans serve, Navaho Code Writers story.

EOM Activity Day - Tribal Dancers will present one station to teach Native American Dance.

EOT Big Event -  We will have story telling by a member of the Nooksack Tribe.  It will be in an assembly setting in the gym.
