ACME ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Acme Steering Committee Minutes

May 30, 2001

Members Present: Erika Alexander, Shannon Brilhart, Ellyn Erickson, Chris Murray, Linda Nieuwendorp, Lillian Green

Members Absent: Tom Smith, Bob Baker

In Process:

1.                ASC Packet.- We discussed the omission of term limits in the revised packet.  A page needs to be inserted to specify the length of 2 years for each member's term.  They can be selected for a second term by their group.

2.                Parent-Student-Teacher Agreement - This agreement was discussed at the Waiver Day on May 25th.  The teachers made some changes and asked Ellyn to have a process session with parents at the next PTA Meeting also.  Teachers will go over the student part with their students and provide feedback to the group in the fall.

3.                6th Graders to Jr. High - Ellyn spoke with Charlie Burleigh, Jr. high Principal, as well as Marijo Fox, the Jr. High Counselor, about the letter asking for all 6th Graders to visit the Jr. High.  They have discussed that in the past, but there were a number of challenges to address.  They both felt that the Field Trip by the Native American Leadership Group was extremely helpful for those particular students.

4.                CLC - The staff discussed this on the Waiver Day May 25th.  There is a possibility that the contract language will change by fall.  They agreed to having the ASC continue in the role as CLC.  We will clarify the steps and procedures in the Fall in light of new contract language.

5.                Tentative Teacher/Class Assignments - We discussed the process used to provide teacher input in the assignment of teachers to grade levels within the building.  Then we discussed the process that we use to create tentative class lists for the fall.  It was a very productive discussion.  ASC members who are not teachers were very pleased to have the process explained.

New Items:

1.                School Performance Report - Ellyn shared the 1999-2000 report that is being finalized now.  The district missed a timeline last fall with the transition to a new assistant superintendent.  The report is required by state law.  It must include the school assessment data as well as information about our population and staff.  Trina created our Acme report last year as part of her internship.  It just needed a few additions for final publication.  Thank you Trina.  The 2000-2001 Report will go out in October 2001.
