Acme Steering Committee Minutes

April 24, 2002

Members Present: Jackie Ebert, Ellyn Erickson, Bob Baker, Linda Nieuwendorp, Kathy Scodeller, Diane Leigh, Libby Westdal, Lillian Green

Members Absent:

In Process:

1.    Safety Plan – We tabled this project for the day, because we had some time sensitive decisions to make.  We will continue at our next meeting.

New Items:

1. Class Configuration Decisions – We discussed the historical patterns of parent responses to our class configuration survey for the past five years.  It has remained solidly in the following preferential order for Acme Parents to have their children in these classroom types:

bullet

1st Choice - Single Grade in one class with one teacher.

bullet

2nd Choice - Single Grade in one class with one teacher looping up to the next grade together.

The following choices were uniformly marked as last choice or not acceptable by parents.  Those responding were VERY strong in their opinions toward these options.

bullet

Combination Grades – 2 or more grades in one classroom with one teacher

bullet

Combination Grades w/ Looping – 2 or more grades in one classroom with one teacher.   One or more grades looping up with the group with the same teacher.

Using this past information, it was decided to roll up to next year the current class/grade configuration as a starting point.  Future enrollment as well as decisions for staffing made at the district level may require us to re-examine the format.  The following chart shows the numbers for each grade and the number of students in each class using the 2 classes for each grade.  There are no combinations in this mix.  There may be some classes, which will be looped to the next grade with the current teacher.  Looping will be determined after the Student Placement Request forms are completed and returned, as well as the teacher Dream Assignments Surveys.

2.  Sexual Harassment Training – Each school and work division (Transportation, Maintenance, etc.) is required to complete Sexual Harassment Training of their staff before the end of the year.  This is an area of training that has not been adequately covered in the past and the district is working very specifically to complete this state requirement.  The ASC discussed the constraints of time available for staff to meet for this training.  It was finally decided that the training will take place on Wednesday, May 1st from 3:40 – 4:30.  All Acme Staff will be required to attend this training.  Waiver Training Time will be used first.  If that has been expended, then other arrangements will be determined at the building level.

Next Meeting:  Wednesday, May 8, 4:30 PM in the Library

Topics:  Building Safety Plan – Review work

ASC/Acme Decision Making Process – Flow Chart

Review Conference Attendance Data From SLR

Other Topics to revisit:  CLC Procedures at the building level
