Acme Steering Committee Minutes

October  22, 2003

New Issues:

1.School Wide Discipline

We reviewed the current Discipline Procedures.  We discussed the new “Take A Break” system being used in the K-2 grades instead of the behavior slips.  It seems to be helping students remember to follow the rules without the punishment aspect. 

2. ASC Packet

We reviewed and revised the 2001 packet and made adjustments to fit the current operation of the ASC.  Diane will show Ellyn how to create the ASC Road map electronically so that it can be easily included in the completed packet.

In Process:

1.  Membership – Need a community member and another parent.  Diane volunteered some students to create posters for the stores, post offices and local churches.   Ellyn will get the facts to her.  We revised the 2000 Volunteer Recruitment letter.  Each ASC member will get Ellyn a list of names to “Recruit” with our letter.    Monday Notes will contain a request for Volunteers also.

2. Beginning of the Trimester BIG EVENT –

Many of the Assembly Providers that we discussed last month were checked out by students in Diane Leigh’s class.  Most of them were not acceptable or too expensive.  We decided to check more carefully into the We Care Sports and decide how to connect the assembly with PE for the following weeks.  The website has more details for our examination.  The teachers and Ellyn will select an Assembly Program and schedule the event.  We also agreed to pursue Karen Rentko’s suggestion to have the Marimba Band perform.  That will be two BOT BIG EVENTS, if we can secure their agreement.

5. 4th Grade Math Project –

Libby did not have many volunteers to help with her project.  We will contact Janet Mock at WWU to see if there are students available to help with this concept.  We may also have Gay Robinson us with her Volunteer connections as the Kendall Volunteer Coordinator to help us out.
