Acme Leadership Team Minutes

September 19, 2007

Members Present:  Jon Anderson, Justina Bass, Jackie Ebert, Ellyn Erickson Debbie Hecht-Reier, John Mumma, Alicia Scott

Members Absent:  None

In Process:

1.  School Improvement Plan – Implementation Report

Nothing new at this time.

2.  Budget – EOM Reports

There have been no reports due to the new business manager just coming on board.

3.  SAF – Primary Support Report

The schedule for Kaye’s position is still being formed.  There are chunks of time for the 1st & 2nd graders currently identified as High Risk in Literacy.  Groups are meeting with Kaye in Room 8.  Use of Kaye’s time for 3rd & 4th has not yet been solidified.  The interest at this time is to use her as enrichment for those students who are more highly skilled.   This would provide time for the classroom teacher to work more closely with students with higher academic needs.

4.  Behavior Plan Review

We continued our discussion of how to adapt the current Behavior Plan to reduce the classroom teacher impact of students needing to miss lunch and recess.    WE also discussed the appropriateness of having students miss EOM activities.  IT was suggested that we make the following changes:

Green& Orange Slips:  Procedures would remain the same.

Yellow Slip #1:  Miss recess/Lunch until paperwork is completed only.  Participate in EOM Activities

Yellow Slip #2:  Miss 3 days minimum Lunch/Recess.  No EOM Activities.

Yellow Slip #3:  Depending upon the time since the last Slip – Teacher and Principal would determine the next step.

5.  Safe Schools

The following components will be implemented this year:

Harassment Lessons: 3rd – 6th Grades (Ellyn will teach)

Communication Lab:  K – 2nd Grades (Teachers & Debbie will teach)

NVC:  3rd & 4th Grades (Teachers & Debbie will teach)

Anti Violence:  5th & 6th Grades (Teachers & Debbie will teach)

Debbie is already setting up class times with teachers.  The Class Meeting language will be used for our group processing activities in the classroom.

6.  Data Review Follow-up

The request was for some way to review one students Assessment history over time:  WASL, DWA & MASI.

New Topics:

1.  WASL Parent Night in 07-08

WE discussed the idea of some parent activities to help parents understand what the WASL is:  examples, of various content questions.  The other component for the parents could be how to help their students be more successful on the WASL.  No decision, but an idea to discuss at Grade Level Band Meetings.

2.  Fresh Air Supervision

We discussed the safety issues and liability of students out at “Fresh Air without the trained Recess Supervisors.   Classroom teachers may not be aware of the expectations for use of equipment.  The liability for injury is high when students are not following the regular recess rules and expectations.  We also talked about the need for radios at “Fresh Air” and outside PE.

Recommendations:

            1.  Teachers need to check with regular recess supervisors for expectations and rules for recess and enforce then at “Fresh Air”.

            2.  A radio will be available along with a first aid fanny pack for teachers to use during “Fresh Air”.  They will be on the desk in the ParaEd Office outside  Mrs. Erickson’s Office.

            3.  We decided that the small number of students, direct supervision and structured nature of PE would not necessitate the radio and fanny pack.  A runner to the office could get help quickly enough.

3.  Computer Lab Preparation

We discussed the need for classroom teachers to plan and communicate Lab Lessons to Lisa Strachila directly in writing.  It is not appropriate for ParaEds to actually plan lessons.  We also noted the need for more computers in the lab, since we have larger classes this year.  If any computers are not working, there are not enough for each student in the large classes.  Ellyn will check with Mark to see if we can add some machines.

4.  GLB Norms

Grade Level Bands will review their Norms at their next meeting.  The ALT Members will facilitate the discussion and get a copy of the final Norms to the next ALT Meeting.

5.

Next Meeting:   October 10, 2007 – Room 7
