School Board Special Meeting & Work Session
January 25, 2007

Board Members in Attendance:  Ellen Dodson; Jim Freeman; Trish Hart; Russ Pfeiffer-Hoyt; David Smith

a.                   Call to Order; Pledge of Allegiance

b.                   Consent Agenda

                                                                           i.      Purchases over $7,500.00:

1.       WSSDA (Washington State School Director’s Association) – 2007 Membership Dues & Services – $7,647.00

2.       Meridian School District, RTL (Readiness to Learn) – $35,148.00

b.       Accounts Payable – January 2007 (second)

Vouchers audited and certified by the auditing officer as required by RCW 42.24.080, and those expense claims certified as required by RCW 42.24.090, have been recorded on a listing, which has been made available to the Board.  As of this day, January 25, 2007 the Board by a unanimous vote does approve the payment of those vouchers included in the above list and further described as follows:  ASB Fund voucher #137 – 147 in the total amount of $7,156.44; and General Fund vouchers #97980 – 98081 in the total amount of $135,498.51.

Mr. Pfeiffer-Hoyt moved and Mr. Smith seconded the motion to approve items on the Consent Agenda.  Motion passed.

c.                   Action Item – Superintendent’s Contract – Mr. Freeman moved and Mr. Smith seconded the motion that the School Board intends to renew the Superintendent’s contract.  Motion passed.

d.                   Adjourn Special Meeting – At 7:10 Ms Dodson adjourned the Special Meeting.

7:10 pm – Work Session

a.                   Curriculum –

§         Whatcom Library Board – The Board heard an update on process and is in support of Dr Gantman continuing to work with Whatcom County Library System regarding their proposal to purchase land from the district.

§         Curriculum Update – Visual Arts & Science – Trina Hall & Gail Weiss provided a history of the project and the current status of curriculum development in the area.

§         Student Support Services - Student Support Services staff presented information about developmental work and current status of the team – Rob Bennett, Toby Marston, Lorali Gray, Jenifer Lewis, Pat Bieber, Pamela Fuller and Art Clark.  The Board acknowledged not only the excellent work of the SSS team, but also the excellent system that has been articulated in this project.
