School Board Meeting - Thursday, October 11, 2007

 

  1. Call to Order, Regular Meeting 7 pm – President, Ellen Dodson called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm and led the Pledge to the Flag.  The meeting was held at the District Office.

 

Attendance:            Board Members – Ellen Dodson, Jim Freeman, Trish Hart, Russ Pfeiffer-Hoyt, David Smith.

Certificated Administrators –Rick Gantman; Charlie Burleigh; Derek Forbes; Jim Frey,

 

a.                               Good of the Order – Jim Freeman received a NW Conference Lifetime Pass in recognition of his long-time service (over 20 years) within a member school district.  The honor was bestowed by the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association.  Mr. Freeman was nominated for the award by Brenda Terpstra.

 

2.       Approval of Minutes – September 13th and 27th Mr. Pfeiffer-Hoyt moved and Mr. Freeman seconded the motion to approve the Minutes.  Motion passed

 

3.       Consent Agenda – Ms. Hart moved and Mr. Smith seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda. Mr. Pfeiffer-Hoyt abstained as there was a reimbursement to him in the Accounts Payable. Motion passed.

                                                             ii.      Ferndale School District – Readiness to Learn - $30,300.00

                                                            iii.      Meridian School District – Readiness to Learn - $26,298.00

                                                           iv.      Gary Wall – Transportation Support/Management Audit and State Trust Lands Consultation - $14,000.00

                                                             v.      Lifespeak Therapy & Consulting – Speech Language Pathologist Services at Kendall Elementary - $30,000.00

e.       Overnight Trips –

                                                               i.      National FFA Convention – October 21 – 27 @ Indianapolis

                                                             ii.      Volleyball State – November 7 & 8 @ Kennewick

                                                            iii.      8th Grade Science Trip – May 7 – 10 @ San Francisco Bay Area

f.        Approval of Accounts Payable for October 07 Payroll for September 07

Vouchers audited and certified by the auditing officer as required by RCW 42.24.080, and those expense claims certified as required by RCW 42.24.090, have been recorded on a listing, which has been made available to the Board.  As of this day, October 11, 2007 the Board by a unanimous vote does approve the payment of those vouchers included in the above list and further described as follows:  ASB Fund voucher #48 through 68 in the total amount of $12,744.62; Capital Projects Fund voucher #1210 in the total amount of $2,629.09; General Fund voucher #17190 in the total amount of $3,074.67; and General Fund vouchers #17192 – 17334 in the total amount of $146,070.88.

 

4.       Information from Board Members

Report on School Board Goals – School Board Portfolio – The portfolio provides accountability for progress the board is making in achieving its goals.  School Board members attended and/or took part in:

o        Kendall Elementary School – Tree planting project; Osier Cedar and Mr. Freeman thanked for volunteering for the project.

o        Mt Baker High School – Visits to 9th grade science classroom; lunch in the Commons; Chemistry class; MS Office class

o        Cross Country Meet @ Silver Lake

o        Access to on-line student information

o        WSSDA Academic & Trustlands Task Forces

5.       Information from the Audience – None

6.       Presentations –  

a.                               Dr. Gantman and Denise Ellis provided current enrollment information.

b.                               Trina Hall, Curriculum Director, provided the annual WASL test results overview.

7.       Action Items –

a.                               OSPI Basic Ed Compliance Application – Mr. Pfeiffer-Hoyt moved and Mr. Freeman seconded the motion to approve the application.  Motion passed.

b.                               Resolution #07/08:6 – Approving the Purchase and Sale Agreement with Whatcom County Rural Library District and Whatcom County Fire District #14 – Mr. Pfeiffer-Hoyt moved and Mr. Freeman seconded the motion to approve Resolution #07/08:6.  Motion passed.
