Megan Dickson Serves on OSPI Math Team Committee In a letter from OSPI Mathematics Assessment Team: “On behalf of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), we want to recognize the contributions to mathematics education made by one of your district staff members, Megan Dickson. Megan, a High School math teacher, was selected to serve on a committee for summer 2007 pilot range finding mathematic items for the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). At the sessions, educators from around Washington determined how WASL mathematic items should be scored. Educators involved must spend time preparing to be away from both professional and personal commitments. Due to this experience, Megan has gained first-hand knowledge about how to write rubrics, score mathematics assessment items aligned with the Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs), and improve the quality of items. Megan has also gained a richer understanding of item specifications. We hope you will facilitate opportunities for Megan to share this information with other educators and parents in your district.” Sustainable Practices Earns Certificate of Recognition In a letter from Jay Manning, Director, State of Washington Department of Ecology: “Thank you for applying for the 2007 Governor’s Award for Pollution Prevention and Sustainable Practices. Your application was a strong contender among 31 applications. Although the judges did not select your application for this year’s award, I am pleased to let you know that your application place you among the 17 finalists considered in the last round of judging. You demonstrated that the Mt Baker School District is making a strong effort to prevent pollution and conduct business in a sustainable way. It is with pleasure that I enclose a certificate in recognition of your efforts.
