Junior Year "To DO" List if You Are Planning to Enter the Military:

September:

bulletIf you are interested in attending a military academy or entering the ROTC program after graduation you should register for the PSAT test.
bulletMake sure you are taking classes that will enable you to meet college "core requirement". 
bulletRepresentatives from the various military branches are regularly on campus so check the daily bulletin and Career Center Calendar in the hall for their schedule. Begin asking for specific information from them.

October:

bulletBegin compiling information for your resume. Take the PSAT.

November:

bulletCome to the Career Center and use the Military Careers Catalogues to research the various occupational opportunities and training available.
bulletFind out which branches offer training opportunities in your field of interest.

December:

bulletResearch the different educational plans offered by the various military branches.
bulletResearch which national colleges offer ROTC programs.

January:

bulletTake an Interest Inventory. Use this information to locate occupations within your interest areas.
bulletWhat military occupations also have civilian components?

February:

bulletContinue to develop employment skills.
bulletUse the Student Information Form and keep it updated. This will help you create resumes.
bulletMeet with your counselor to make sure you are taking AND passing all the classes you need to graduate.
bulletLocate specific employers in your field of interest military or civilian and set up a "Job Shadow" experience.

March:

bulletAttend one of the School Tours offered to Juniors. Your plans may change before you graduate and these tours: The High School College Conference (interview the colleges there that have ROTC programs) & Bellingham Technical College Campus Tour, offer valuable information.

April:

bulletTake the ASVAB test and be sure to make sure you have your scores released to the military.
bulletIf you are considering applying to a military academy or becoming involved in the ROTC program you will need to begin the process this spring and don’t forget to sign up to take the SAT or ACT tests.

May - June:

bulletStart looking for summer employment opportunities in your career interest area.
bulletExplore volunteer options to gain experience.
bulletInvestigate local clubs or organizations that you can become involved in that are within your career field. The Career Center can help you with all of the above.
