September:
 | Continue career interest research. The Career Center has numerous tools
to help you determine which career fields "fit" you. |
 | Take classes that will help you learn the skills necessary to find
employment in your occupation of interest. |
 | Will you make
a "living wage" in this field?
Use resources in the career center to find out this information. |
October:
 | Begin compiling information for your resume.
Use the
Student Information
Form and keep it updated every year. |
 | Have three people other than relatives who can write
you a letter of recommendation. |
 | Are you taking any Tech
Prep classes that you may be eligible to receive college credit for?
Check with your counselor. These credits could work to your advantage
in the future if you choose to get technical training for a higher wage job.

November:
 | Ask about doing an informational interview, your Career Counselor
can help. |
December:
 | Identify the skills required to work in your
field of interest. Use the Career Center resources. |
 | Identify where you will get the needed skills. |
January:
 | Take an Interest Inventory. Use this information to locate occupations
within your interest areas. |
February:
 | Continue to develop employment skills. |
 | Meet with your counselor to make sure you
are taking AND passing all the classes you need to graduate. |
 | Locate specific employers in
your field of interest and set up a "Job Shadow" experience. |
March:
 | Attend one of the School Tours offered to Juniors. Your plans may
change before you graduate and these tours: The High School College Conference &
Bellingham Technical College Campus Tour, offer valuable information. |
April:
 | Take the ASVAB test. It is a great aptitude
test and can give you important information which will help you in choosing a
career. |
 | Complete your resume. The Career Center has software to
help you create a professional resume and cover letter. |
 | Take the general college placement test given to
all juniors during "Testing Week". This test will give needed
information about your skill levels needed for different occupations. |
May - June:
 | Start looking for summer employment opportunities in your career
interest area. |
 | Explore volunteer options to gain experience. |
 | Investigate local clubs or
organizations that you can become involved in that are within your career field. The
Career Center can help you with all of the above. |
