Apprenticeship programs combine on-the-job training with classroom studies. The apprentice is earning money while they learn their chosen trade. Many refer to apprenticeship programs as "the other 4 year degree" because it can take four to five years to become a "journeyman" in your field. Applying for apprenticeship openings can be very competitive because there is the potential to earn excellent wages. Most apprenticeship programs require that students be 18 years old and have graduated from high school. The career center has Washington State Apprenticeship Program Directories available.
