| Senior Year "To DO" List if You Are
Attending a University and
Four-Year College: |
September:
 | Register for the Oct. SAT or ACT if you have not taken the test yet.
Does your college or university of interest require the
SAT II tests? |
 | Narrow down your school choices. Visit the Counseling Center for
information and assistance. |
 | Know the DEADLINE DATES for all of the
colleges you are considering. This information is readily available in the
career center. |
 | Are any of your selected schools part of the
Western Undergraduate Exchange program?
If so and you qualify you may save $$$$$ on out-of-state tuition. |
 | Know all of the requirements for the
NCAA Clearinghouse if you are planning
to play Division I or II sports at college. |
 | Investigate scholarships, prepare a
resume to use for letter of recommendation. |
 | Update your
Student Information
Form. This is useful for scholarships and college applications. |
October:
 | Attend one of the College Fairs.
There is a wide variety of college fairs offered at the
beginning of each school year. Many are in the Seattle area and represent
schools from around the U.S. There is always one in Bellingham that hosts
Washington state public schools. Check the career center bulletin for
specific information. |
 | Plan to visit college campuses. |
November:
 | Fill out school applications. Click here to get the details
about filling out applications to colleges. Read directions
on applications very carefully. |
 | Ask teachers, counselors, etc., for letters of
recommendation. |
 | Arrange to visit the schools, if possible. The Counseling Center will have
school phone numbers and addresses. |
December:
 | Turn in completed applications and fees, if required, to the
guidance secretary. She and your counselor will fill out the "school" section of
the application and mail it. Most schools begin accepting applications Dec. 1, but always
double check. |
 | Begin reviewing and compiling the information you will need to complete
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will need your current income
tax information in order to complete the forms. Assistance with filling out
the FAFSA is available in the Counseling Center.

 | Also
check to see if the CSS PROFILE Financial Aid Form is required by your school.
|
 | Attend
the Financial Aid Workshop in the High School Library. |
January:
 | Mail FAFSA form. Be sure to keep a copy of everything,
keep it together. |
 | Check to see if the schools you are applying to also require an
institution financial aid form. If they do, complete and mail in as soon as possible.

 | The
Career Center has resources to help determine which forms each school requires. For

February:
 | Continue looking for scholarships to help finance your education. The
Counseling Center has hundreds of
scholarship listings. |
March:
 | Check with your counselor, make sure you are taking AND passing all courses needed
to graduate. Keep looking for scholarships. |
April - June:
 | Acceptance letters should begin to arrive. Once you have heard back from all the
schools you applied to; decide which one you will attend. Talk with your family and
counselors to help you make this BIG decision. |
