| Senior Year "To DO" List if You Are Planning On Working
Following High School: |
September:
 | Continue career interest research. The Career Center has numerous tools to help you
determine which career fields "fit" you. Check out the
Employment section of this website that provides labor market
information. |
October:
 | Begin compiling information for your resume. |
 | Update your
Student Information
Form. This is useful for creating resumes and filling out job
applications. |
November:
 | Narrow down career field choices. Use the CHOICES software in the Career Center and
other reference materials to determine employment outlook and possible employers in your
field of interest. Ask about doing an informational interview, your
Career Counselor can help. |
December:
 | Identify the skills required to work in your field of interest. Use the Career
Center resources. Take classes that will help you learn the skills necessary to find
employment in your occupation of interest. Will you make a "living wage" in this
field? |
January - February:
 | Continue to develop employment skills. Meet with your counselor to make sure you
are taking AND passing all the classes you need to graduate. Locate specific employers in
your field of interest and set up a "Job Shadow" experience. |
March:
 | Use the various directories in the Career Center to locate local employers.
Learn about labor market information that is available on computers in Career Center. Sign
up for a JOB HUNTING WORKSHOP through the Career Center or stop
by the Career Center for assistance with job search techniques and interviewing skills. |
April:
 | Complete your resume. The Career Center has software to help you create a
professional resume and cover letter. |
May - June:
 | You should have a list of at least five potential employers complete
with names, addresses and phone numbers. Familiarize yourself with the job placement
services and job hunting strategies. The Career Center can help. |
