Mt. Baker's Student Service Network works closely with the Whatcom Volunteer Center, a non-profit organization that helps local non-profit businesses and agencies find interested volunteers. Our Student Service Network is operated and maintained by students! These student coordinators interview interested high school students to help place them in a rewarding volunteer experience. They also keep track of how many volunteer hours each registered student spends on assigned activities through out the year. Students can then have their volunteer hours officially noted.

It lists all of the current volunteer opportunities in Whatcom County that are registered with the volunteer center. They are categorized by interest area. Once you locate an opportunity call their local number 734-3055 or 1-800-VOLUNTEER (1-800-865-868337) and they will give you the referral information. ALSO, the list of available volunteer opportunities are mailed to the SSN on a bi-weekly basis. To find out more information just put your name on the Career Center sign up sheet and one of the coordinators will make an appointment to meet with you!

Mt. Baker High School Defines Volunteer Service as:

	Involving delivery of service directly to constituents of a charitable organization or participation in a project sponsored by such an organization.
	Benefiting an organization that has non-profit institutional or organizational affiliation or status.
	Resulting in service to at least one person, other than the student or the student's relative, and is of benefit to either the Mt. Baker community or the greater "community at large."
	Separate from a service activity for which the student is already receiving school or organizational credit or recognition.
	Being performed without compensation to the student.
	Not being performed during scheduled academic periods.
	Not any service mandated by a court.
