Mt. Baker High School is part of the Whatcom County Tech Prep Consortium.  Like Running Start, Tech Prep is a state-wide program designed to give high school students a head start with their post-secondary education, with the advantage of allowing students to stay on the high school campus while they earn college credits for FREE (save $68 per credit/ current tuition rate).

Advantages of the TECH PREP program for students are:

  1. Stay enrolled at MBHS and take your courses on your high school campus.
  2. Earn approved college credits in your high school occupational courses.
  3. Credits earned through the Tech Prep program may be transferable to other colleges!

Below is a grid chart that shows which MBHS courses have been approved for students to earn college level credit at Whatcom Community College and Bellingham Technical College.

FIVE EASY STEPS TO EARNING COLLEGE CREDITS

  1. Enroll in one of the approved College Tech Prep classes listed above.  (Ask your counselor or the career specialist for a list of approved classes in your selected career pathway).
  2. Complete the high school required course assignments and college course competencies with a grade of  "B" or better.
  3. Complete the College Tech Prep registration process.  Your high school instructor will give you information about he "on-line" registration system.  Follow  the instructions provided; print 2 copies - one to keep for your files and one to mail to the college.
  4. Mail a printed copy of the completed registration for along with a ONE-TIME $25 application fee to the Whatcom County Tech Prep Consortium.  The fee sets up "transcript file" for you at the selected college.  Make sure you process your registration and payment within two weeks of course completion  or no later than June 30th.  Courses will only be transcripted within the academic year the student completes the work.  No college credits granted after June 30th of the academic school year in which you completed the course.
