Mt. Baker High School is part of the Whatcom
County Tech Prep Consortium. Like Running Start, Tech Prep is a
state-wide program designed to give high school
students
a head start with their post-secondary
education, with the advantage of allowing students to stay on the high school campus
while they earn college credits for FREE (save $68 per credit/ current
tuition rate).
Advantages of the TECH PREP program for students are:
- Stay enrolled at MBHS and take your courses on your high school campus.
- Earn approved college credits in your high school
occupational courses.
- Credits earned through the Tech Prep program may be
transferable to other colleges!
Below is a grid chart that shows
which MBHS courses have been approved for students to earn college level credit
at Whatcom Community College and Bellingham Technical College.

Students must be ENROLLED in one of the approved Tech Prep
classes at Mt. Baker High School and pass their course work with a grade of B or
better. Students must also REGISTER for
the college credit at the following web-site or meet with the career counselor:
www.whatcomtechprep.org.
Students must also fill out the required paperwork before June 30th of each

FIVE EASY STEPS TO EARNING COLLEGE
CREDITS
- Enroll in one of the approved College Tech Prep classes
listed above. (Ask your counselor or the career specialist for a list of
approved classes in your selected career pathway).
- Complete the high school required course assignments
and college course competencies with a grade of "B" or better.
- Complete the College Tech Prep registration process.
Your high school instructor will give you information about he "on-line"
registration system. Follow the instructions provided; print 2
copies - one to keep for your files and one to mail to the college.
- Mail a printed copy of the completed registration for
along with a ONE-TIME $25 application fee to the Whatcom County Tech Prep
Consortium. The fee sets up "transcript file" for you at the selected
college. Make sure you process your registration and payment within two
weeks of course completion or no later than June 30th. Courses
will only be transcripted within the academic year the student completes the
work. No college credits granted after June 30th of the academic
school year in which you completed the course.
- Receive your college credits. The college
registrar will post courses/grades to your college transcript.
Transcripts can be viewed/downloaded from the college website or requested
through the college registrar's office. Good idea to add it to your
portfolio.
