SUMMER WORK

INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS
F.A.C.E.S. Northwest is looking or 10 – 12 instructional assistants to work 1:1 with all male students. IA’s will be working with kids with disabilities. It is definitely a recreation-oriented program so applicants must be physically able to swim, hike, and take longs walks. General knowledge of autism is highly recommended.  Beginning pay is $8.25 per hour. If interested see Mr. Goodwin or Ms. Madison.


STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Girls Get Technical is a summer program for 11th grade girls to explore the Process Manufacturing Technical Careers.  The program runs from June 30 – July 2. Students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.  Applications are available in the career center.

Winning Characteristics Scholarship           
Cash value: $1,000 - $5,000   
Applicant must be graduating senior who's school received a "Making It Count" Presentation. Applicant must possess a cumulative G.P.A. of at least a “B” or higher at the time of application. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Must be a son, daughter or legal dependent of a Farm Bureau family with a current membership. All majors accepted.

Dorothy Massie Scholarship Cash value: varies        
Applicant must be a graduating senior from MBHS who has attended there for at least 2 years. Candidate must be of high moral character and show interest in scholarship and learning with serious plans for completion of higher education.  Special consideration will be given to those planning to study science, mathematics, nursing or teaching.

Deming Logging Show Auxiliary Scholarship          Cash value: $300         
Must be a senior from a Whatcom County high school planning to attend a technical college, community college or university.  Preference given to students related to someone in the logging industry. Two scholarships will be awarded.

Delta Upsilon Scholarship                 Cash value: varies        
Applicant must be male and planning to attend the University of Washington. Scholarships are awarded based on personal merit as well as academic qualification and well balanced extracurricular activities.

Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship                     Cash value: $1,000

Carl Hossman Memorial Scholarship
                      Cash value: $5,000      
Applicant must be a male who plans to attend University of Washington. Service, honors, and extra curricular activities along with academic achievement in addition to a written essay and an interview are criteria.

Scholarships awarded to students planning to attend technical college, community college, or four-year college or university.  Applicants for the college or university award must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 and a minimum of 2.5 GPA for technical college applicants.

Mt. Baker Chapter PSE Scholarship            Cash value: $750         
Applicant must be a Mt. Baker High School graduating senior who plans to attend  a two-year or four-year college.

Whatcom Women in Business           Cash value: $500 - $750         
Applicant must be a female planning to further their education. Requires  cover letter and two letters of reference. Applications are available on-line: www.wwib.org

Edmund F. Maxwell Scholarship       Cash value: up to $5,000         
Applicants must be residents of Western Washington who are planning to attend an accredited independent school of their choice.  Students must have received a combined score on their SAT of over 1200 (not including the writing section) or a 27 or higher on the ACT.  Students must have submitted a FAFSA and demonstrated financial need as determined by each institution to which the student has applied. Students fill out a portion of the application and the school they plan to attend must fill out a portion of the application.  Applications are available on-line: www.maxwell.org

Theta Corp Alpha Kappa Lambda Scholarship                    Cash value: $500 a semester    
These book scholarships are being awarded to males attending the University of Washington who will be founding members of the Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda. The scholarships are for $500 a semester and may be renewed as long as the student maintains good grades, remains a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda and the fraternity chapter continues to thrive. Applicant must be a Mount Baker student. Criteria include student's athletic involvement, citizenship and GPA.  Four awards are given annually.

Questbridge College Prep     Cash value: varies        
This scholarship is open to JUNIORS. QuestBridge will award scholarship packages to more than 800 students. Packages will include one or more of the following:
Full Scholarships to College Summer School Programs: QuestBridge will provide counseling to 10 students to support their applications to Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Notre Dame or Yale University's summer school programs.

The scholarships are for students in grades 6 - 11 who are attending Whatcom County public schools. Scholarships are for summer enrichment programs in most areas such as music, art, science, computer science, medicine and more. Excluded from consideration are sports programs, foreign study/exchange programs, religious studies, and private lessons. All eligible programs will take place in the US. This annual scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Mt. Baker High School student pursuing higher education at a technical college, community college or 4 yr. university. Applicant must exhibit high moral values, strong character and good judgment. Leadership and community service are also considered. To apply students must fill out the Mt. Nordstrom Scholarship                      Cash value: $10,000    
Applicant must be an 11th grade student. Student must have financial need, a minimum 2.7 GPA or higher and be eligible to attend a four-year college or university in the
US. Scholarship is open to all majors. The winning students will be awarded $2,500 each year for four years. Application requires an essay, financial information, letter of recommendation, community service and a personal statement. Applications available in the career center.

Must be a graduating senior applying to an accredited college or university who's parent or guardian is a full-time active employee of a police department or full-time paid or volunteer member of a fire department in Washington state. Applications available in the career center.

Applicant must be planning to attend either Whatcom Community College or Bellingham Technical College and working to complete a degree in one of the following areas:

Each Best Buy store will award scholarships for $1000 to $2000 to students living in a 50 mile radius. Robert J. Handy & WSSR-Foundation Scholarship            Cash value: $1,200 - $3,000

REMINDERS:

SENIORS – Tues. Oct. 2nd is the last day to register for the Nov. 3rd SAT college placement test. Registration materials are available in the career center.

Monday, October 1st at 1:30 pm the Bellingham Technical College Placement Test will be given on our campus. The test will also be given on November 6th and December 4th. Students must have signed up with Ms. Madison in order to take the test on any of the above dates.

Army ROTC
 Scholarships                                        Cash value: full tuition   
Applicants must be high school students planning on attending a four-year college program. To qualify, you must 1) Be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 17 and 26 with a high school GPA of at least 2.50 who has a high school diploma or equivalent. 2) Have a score minimum of 920 on the SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on the ACT (excluding the required writing test scores)  3) Meet physical standards.  4)Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard).  The most competitive candidates for an Army ROTC Four-Year Scholarship will have at least an SAT score of 1100 or an  ACT score of 24. This scholarship is available to low income high achieving students. This scholarship provides for FULL four-year scholarships to leading colleges. Applications are accepted from both male and female student-athletes who exhibit excellence in the classroom, on the playing field, and within their communities. Eligibility for application is limited exclusively to men and women whose senior year of high school is the 2007-2008 academic year, who have at least a “B” grade average, and participate in at least one of 33 sports. The Better Business Bureau Foundation is offering (3) $1,000 scholarships for junior and senior high school students in Western Washington. Students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher, submit one letter of recommendation, and submit a 1,000 word essay on the importance of ethics and integrity in the marketplace.
