
DEMING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SITE-BASED DECISION-MAKING COUNCIL
April, 1998
The Deming Elementary School Site Council is composed of parents, staff
and administrator. Each member is dedicated to innovative directions for staff and student
development, curriculum development, educational activities and supportive programs for
implementation.
Our goals:
- To further develop Comfort Kits protocols for emergency preparedness.
- To assist in transition of students moving to other schools in the
district due to the establishment of new geographical boundaries, the addition of new
classrooms at Acme and Harmony and the building of a new school in Kendall.
- Begin transition of combining Maple Falls Site and Deming Site Council.
- Provide process for optimum accomplishment of directional staff
development towards SLIG goals.
- Provide Grant application documents and subcommittee for approval.
Accomplishments:
- A 'Schools in Transition' grant was written to facilitate the needs of
children being transitioned to new schools.
- As of February we have received $6,000.00 dollars to implement several
components of the grant.
- A theater piece, directed by Holly O'Niel, will begin in March and
travel to Harmony and Acme schools.
- Parents information programs will continue to be a part of the grant.
- Continued effort seeking other granting sources for "Schools in
Transition" in order to create child art tiles for new building and further parent
involvement.
- Site Council provided pre-packaged comfort kits for purchase at
conferences.
- On going dialogue to combine Site Councils.
- Design of protocol and application document for acquiring grants and
moneys for educational development toward school goals.
- Assessment tools identification in progress.
