CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, BUILDING VISITS

Board Briefs
June 2004

Rick Gantman, Superintendent

In recent work sessions, school board members have been covering areas of curriculum development, including secondary social studies and K-12 reading.    Curriculum teams have been working on the curriculum development and have been keeping the board updated at work sessions throughout the process.  On May 27th the board studied the secondary social studies and K-12 reading curriculum proposals,  with the intention of considering and adopting them at the June 10th board meeting.

The curriculum teams have done exceptional work, under the direction of Trina Hall, Curriculum Director;  their work has been well received and appreciated by the board.

On another subject,  board members have continued with visits to each school building, observing staff and students.  The purpose of the visits is to look for and observe school improvement efforts.

In addition to these formal school improvement visits, board members individually continue to support staff and students with their attendance at a wide variety of school events.  Band and choir concerts, sporting events, scholarship committee meetings, in-class presentations, banquets and senior project presentations are just a few of the activities board members attended this spring.

Our board members spend generous amounts of time and energy doing their good work for the district—take a minute to thank them next time you see them at a school function.
