District Works on Reporting Student Progress

Curriculum Corner

Trina Hall, Curriculum Director

September, 2004

As part of our districts continuous improvement efforts on assessment and accountability for student achievement the district has organized a committee to examine how we report student progress to parents.  This committee, comprised of teachers and administrators, is reviewing our elementary school reporting system.  Working over the summer, the committee has reviewed research on effective reporting of student progress and is working to modify our reporting system, including our elementary report cards.  Over the years, the district has developed learning standards for reading, writing, math, social studies, science, art, and music.  The reporting system will reflect each student’s progress on meeting those standards.

The purpose of a standards based reporting system is to improve student achievement by clearly communicating a student’s progress toward district standards.

Parent input is critical to this process and we want your involvement.  We will seek input through forums held at each school site over the next several months.  Watch the school newsletters and district website for information on specific dates at each elementary school location.
