Board Briefs

Policy Review Continues—

Mt Baker school board members are continuing their in-depth review of  school district policy.   Board members govern the district through the development and application of adopted policy.

Working in consultation with a representative from the Washington State School Director’s Association (WSSDA), the district began the review of all policies in August of 2004.

WSSDA is a state-level organization for school board members; the Association provides legal and policy direction to all school districts in the state of Washington.

Review of policies covering governance (1000 Series) has been completed and currently the board is looking at policy related to students (2000 Series).  Approximately thirty policies have been reviewed, amended and adopted at this time.

The review process will continue during worksessions and school board meetings well into the 2004/2005 school year.

Please watch for the schedule of work on meeting agendas and plan to attend if you are interested in this important work being done by your school board members.

Tribal Parents & Officials Invited to Participate—

Each year tribal representatives are invited to provide comments and suggestions regarding the extent of Indian Children’s participation in the school district’s programs.

Interested persons are invited to attend the regular School Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 13.  The meeting will begin at 7 pm and will be held at the Nooksack Tribal offices in Deming.  The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Please call Special Programs Director, Pat Bieber @ 383-2012 for more information.
