June, 2005 Rick Gantman, Superintendent Budget Work—Staff & the school board have been working hard to develop the 2005/06 budget. Adjustments and revisions are being made as we work to ensure that we continue to provide the best programs possible for our students. The budget will be considered for adoption by the School Board in the July 21 board meeting. New Staff Hired — You will see an article about Laura Gerhardt, our new High School Assistant Principal. In addition, the board has approved Karla Atwood, as our new Food Services Director. Ms. Atwood comes to us from the Mt Vernon School district, where she served as Food Services Director for the past two years, and prior to that worked in the Bellingham School District for 13 years. We are looking forward to continued success in our food services department; Ms. Atwood is committed to providing the very best in child nutrition for our students. Tim Yeomans, Assistant Superintendent—You may recall from last year that Tim Yeomans will become our new Assistant Superintendent on July 1, 2005. Mr. Yeomans has been ‘wearing three hats’ during the 2004/05 school year— High School Principal, Executive Director of Transportation, and Assistant Superintendent-in-Training. In July Mr. Yeomans will move from the high school to the district office. His initial projects will include working to improve the District’s operating procedures, and developing our staff development program. School Improvement Plans (SIP)—School Improvement has been a major topic of conversation in almost every school board meeting, staff meeting and leadership meeting during the 2004/2005 school year. Teachers in each school have been working hard on their specific plans. A good portion of staff development time this year has been spent on how we can improve our teaching methodologies and to ensure our students are receiving the best and most effective instruction possible. Copies of each school’s SIP are available from our Principals. |
