Trina Hall, Curriculum Director February, 2006 Washington State is now at the point in time where students will take part in WASL testing (Washington Assessment of Student Learning ) at grades 3-8, plus 10. This is in compliance with the federal government’s No Child Left Behind legislation and a part of the state assessment system. All WASL testing takes place in the spring in the grade levels outlined below. This year’s 10th graders are the first class required to pass the WASL in order to graduate. The state and district continue to search for ways to support students in meeting the new graduation requirements. Some supports include allowing students multiple chances to pass the 10th grade WASL, allowing alternatives and/or accommodation for students with specialized needs, and creating personalized learning plans for students. For additional information, you are encouraged to contact your school principal, JH or HS counselor, or your child’s teacher. The Partnership for Learning website (www.partnership4learning.org)is also a great resource for information.
