CURRICULUM CORNER
Effective Study Habits |

The start of the school year provides an excellent
opportunity for establishing good study routines! Here are some tips to get you
and your child off to a great start of productive study habits:
 |
Set up a study area that includes a quiet place to work
and supplies at hand. |
 |
Establish and maintain a daily homework and study
time. Stick to it! If your child does not have homework or they do not
have the book they need, do not excuse them from study time. Encourage them
to read or write during this time. |
 |
Be a homework manager. Check in with your child
periodically throughout study time. Be supportive and nonjudgmental. Help
your child learn to manage his/her time wisely by making a homework plan
each day on how to utilize the time best. |
 |
Avoid distractions. Turn off the TV and keep others in
the house in quiet mode during study time. No phone calls or games. |
 |
When evening events make life busy, be sure to plan a
schedule that maintains study time routines. |
 |
Know the homework policies and work plans of your
child’s teachers so you can support the learning at home. |
Children learn best when their parents take an active
interest in what they are learning. Talk to your child about what they are
doing at school; ask questions and stay involved!
