CURRICULUM CORNER

Kindergarten - All Day, Every Day at Kendall

Trina Hall, Curriculum Director

Kindergarten @ Kendall—Beginning this fall all kindergarten students at Kendall Elementary will be attending school five full days a week.  This full time kindergarten schedule is possible due to new legislation resulting in state funding to selected schools throughout the state.  The intent of the legislation is to eventually fund full-time kindergarten in all Washington schools over the next decade.  The phase-in plan begins this year with funding for targeted schools.

This is a fabulous opportunity for Kendall Elementary students, families and staff.  Parents at Kendall will receive additional information about the transition in a letter from the school.

Harmony and Acme Elementary Schools will continue with their current schedules.

We have an amazing group of kindergarten teachers in the Mount Baker School District and they will work together as a team on a successful transition to a full-time program for Kendall and continued enhancements to the half-time programs at our other two schools—all to provide the highest quality learning environment for all of our kindergarten students.

These are exciting times for early childhood education in Washington State and we are thrilled to be a part of this first year of state-funded full time kindergarten!
