Harmony Choir

Our first rehearsal was on Wednesday, October 14th at 8;15am.

T Shirts have been ordered!

We have had 3 wonderful rehearsals already with about 50 singers!!

December 8, 7pm at the Harmony PTA meeting

some tentative dates to pencil in:

December 5 – (possibly for the Deming Library Tea)

December 18th for the Harmony End of the Month Assembly

and beyond:

March 20, a Saturday - San Juan Music Educator’s Elementary Choir Festival in Blaine

March 30, Tuesday 7pm - Harmony Elementary Concert for the community

April 23 - Mt. Baker Community Talent Show

What:  Choir is a group of people who commit to rehearsing and singing together.  We will be learning the joy of making music together, as well as vocal production, blending, tone quality, unison & part singing, music reading and performance skills.

Who:  Harmony Choir is open to all 5th and 6th grade students of Harmony who wish to be a part of a singing group dedicated to making vocal music together. 

Expectations:
* Regular, on-time attendance and a positive attitude.
* Choir members need to be at all rehearsals and performances.  (except for illness or prior arrangement)
* Singers are expected to stay caught up on their regular class work.

 

Rehearsal Calendar
Rehearsals are held each Wednesday morning from 8:15 - 9:15 in the Harmony music room
October into April. 

Uniform Information
Each singer needs a Harmony choir t-shirt and dark pants (black preferred) for performances.  Shirts are ordered and purchased at the beginning of the year. It is fine to use a choir shirt from a previous year (if it’s in good condition).  There is assistance available for those in need, please contact Mrs. Rossman or Mrs. Sutton for this information. There is no other tuition for choir.

Harmony Choir - Spring, 2008

I was so proud of the Harmony choir at the Blaine choir festival.  The director, Patty Bourne had some really great things to say about this group!  She even asked them to demonstrate to the large group how to file up to the risers during our dress rehearsal. 

We were invited to sing at the Mt. Baker Community Talent Show on April 25th, 7pm.  It was a great event and also a celebration of all the years that Mrs. Mellema served this community through her work putting together the Talent Show!  Thanks Mrs. Mellema!

 

On May 16 – a special field trip was approved by Mrs. Rossman for year-long choir members.  The trip was to WWU to see the “On Ensemble”, a group rooted in a taiko ensemble foundation that uses the Japanese drum blended with acoustic instruments, Tuvan overtone singing, live electronics and a blend of folk, jazz and rock music that draws from the ancient cultures and traditions. 

Exciting times last year!!
