Position:           High School Assistant Principal

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Washington State Administrator’s Certificate (complete or in process),
  2. Successful teaching experience at the secondary level and knowledge of current trends in secondary education,
  3. Effective administration or supervisory experience preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills leading to positive interactions with students, parents, staff, and community groups,
  2. Skillful problem solving, time management, organizational and conflict resolution skills,

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the school principal in all phases of the overall management of the educational and co-curricular activities of the school,
  2. Lead staff, students, and the community in development and implementation of school level improvement goals focused on the high achievement of a diverse student body,
  3. Supervise the discipline and management of students consistent with district and school policies,
  4. Monitor the effectiveness of school improvement efforts through the analysis of student data,
  5. Work with staff towards instructional improvement,
  6. Coordinate supervision, reporting, and monitoring of students’ attendance,
  7. Knowledge and skill in human relations with the ability to work and communicate positively and effectively with community, parents, district staff, and students,
  8. Exercise responsibility for supervision of assigned support staff and other such duties as assigned,
  9. Contributes to the District’s pursuit in continuous improvement efforts and collaborative processes,
  10. Participate and contributes to the professional dialogue of the Educational Leadership Team in shaping district leadership and educational theory,
  11. Responsible for supervision of extra curricular activities and events.

Salary Range:   Full time employment range is $80,431 to $85,257 depending on experience.

Special Programs Director

Continuing, FTE To Be Determined, .8 FTE - 1.0 FTE

 The Mount Baker School District is seeking application for the position of Special Programs Director.  The successful candidate will provide excellence in administrative leadership to facilitate effective programming for students with diverse learning needs.  The District seeks an outstanding professional who is committed to helping people achieve success, enjoys working in a collaborative environment, looks for opportunities to expand their capabilities, views education as a partnership of students, staff, parents and community, and represents and values cultural diversity. 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Washington State Administrator’s Certificate (complete or in process),
  2. Degree in Special Education preferred,
  3. Master’s Degree in related field preferred,
  4. Three years of supervisory/administration/leadership experience preferred,
  5. Three years of increasingly responsible work experience in the field of Special Education, Special Services, or related field preferred.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Special Programs Director is directly responsible for addressing the needs of At-Risk learners and coordinating related state and federal programs. Specific program oversight may include students with disabilities programs, remediation programs, transitional bilingual programs, Indian Education programs, and the Readiness-to-Learn program.  In addition to specific program knowledge, we are looking for an educational leader who is able to hold a vision for all students as learners, and work with administrative and teaching teams using the supplemental programs as resources for those in need of specific services. Skills and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Ability to locate resources to support the needs of struggling and diverse learners.
  2. Knowledge of community resources and family involvement strategies.
  3. Ability to promote consensus in groups of individuals with diverse interests and values and demonstrated skill in working as an effective team member.
  4. Proven ability to develop and deliver long-range plans for complex programs or projects and knowledge of the logistics involved in planning classes or special programs for students.
  5. Experience in establishing and managing budgets and knowledge of grant application and year-end-report processes.
  6. Knowledge and skill in human relations with the ability to work and communicate positively and effectively with community, parents, district staff, and students.
  7. Commitment to consistency and fairness in dealing with parents, staff, and students.
  8. Ability to assure program alignment with district standards; provide interpretations, regarding state and federal disability, ELL, and NCLB mandates; represent the department in mediation, due process, and other proceedings as requested.
  9. Ability to supervise and evaluate assigned special programs staff members; align and implement staff development activities for instructional staff with the district’s mission, vision, policies and procedures.
  10. Fiscal management of the budgets for the programs for which he/she has direct responsibility.
  11. Promoting the success of all students and staff by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.
  12. Leading the development of staff’s professional knowledge of research-based instructional theories, practices and interventions for diverse learners.
  13. Leading the development of excellent records and data management systems for record keeping and student performance tracking.
  14. Contributing to the District’s curriculum development work and participating in the District’s Educational Leadership Team.
