Position:           PARA-EDUCATOR

Type:               Temporary; 5.75 Hours Per Day / 3 Days Per Week

The District has a temporary position open for Para-Educator at Harmony Elementary.  Responsibilities include general classroom assistance in the areas of reading, writing and math and lunch/playground supervision.  Reassignment may occur based on student growth and/or changes in student enrollment.  Affiliation: represented by PSE Union.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Primary emphasis is the ability to carefully monitor, support and interact with students with and without developmental or social challenges in the general education classroom environment for the purpose of promoting academic engagement, responding to student needs and resolving student issues including behavioral difficulties;
  • Document student activities and progress to support the teacher and/or administrator in maintaining records;
  • Implement academic instruction designed the by the teacher for students in individual or small groups for the purpose of meeting learning goals as described by IEP and/or district benchmarks;
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments and or materials under the direction of the general education teacher for the purpose of providing an opportunity for all students to participate in classroom activities;
  • Provide support to students in the lifeskills classroom;
  • Perform other related tasks and responsibilities as designated by the principal, program supervisor or designee.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of the Praxis ETS Assessment or two or more documented years of college education and previous experience with elementary age students in an instructional capacity required.

Position:           PARA-EDUCATOR / TWO POSITIONS

Type:               Temporary/Student Specific, 6 Hours Day/180 Days Per Year

The District has two open positions for Para-Educator at the High School to work with students with autism in the lifeskills classroom.  Students exhibit significant communication, social and behavior deficits that require a highly structured environment and consistent schedule throughout the school day.  These positions are contingent upon student enrollment and the need for direct support during the day and may be adjusted as needed.  Affiliation: PSE represented positions.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implement student specific academic, social, behavioral, and communication objectives as directed by program staff;
  • Assist in implementing a highly structured environment utilizing specific communication and learning modalities associated with the disability of autism;
  • Assist to develop and implement systems for monitoring behavior and tracking behavioral data over time;
  • Assist in development and implementation of positive behavioral and education plans;
  • Provide one-to-one and two-to-one assistance as needed;
  • Implement positive behavior intervention strategies outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP);
  • Attend school sponsored restraint training seminars and other job-related trainings;
  • Attend and participate in team meetings as requested by the special education teacher;
  • Contact and take direction from the special education teacher and other school-related service personnel;
  • Maintain a confidential and professional attitude in working with students;
  • Perform other related tasks and responsibilities as designated by the principal, program supervisor or designee.
