PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES

MOUNT BAKER HIGH SCHOOL

from the 2005-2006 MBHS Student Handbook

ASB ACTIVITY CARDS

While salaries for advisors and coaches are paid by the school district, all student activities such as athletics, dances, assemblies, and clubs are financed by student funds. One of the most important sources of revenue for these programs is the student  ASB card.

The ASB card provides FREE admittance to all home athletic contests.  The ASB card also admits a student free, or at discounted admission prices, to plays, musicals, dances, and assemblies as well as away athletic events.  Yearbooks are also cheaper. The purchase of an ASB card can result in considerable savings.

School spirit may be divided into three categories.

bullet

Courtesy: toward teachers, students and officials of school athletic activities.

bullet

Pride:  in everything our school endeavors to accomplish and has accomplished.

bullet

Sportsmanship:  to be able to win and lose gracefully.  School spirit means loyalty to all functions of the school.

A loyal student supports the school and does his/her utmost to keep scholastic and activity standards at the highest possible level.

STUDENT CONDUCT AT SCHOOL-SPONSORED EVENTS

The conduct of students at all activities associated with the school, whether on school grounds or away, is described in the student discipline section of this book.  In addition, inappropriate disruptive behavior at a school-sponsored event can result in suspension from attendance at school-sponsored activities for up to 90 days.  Students who leave a school sponsored activity will not be allowed to return to the event.

DANCES, ACTIVITIES

Mount Baker High School has special dances each year including Homecoming and the Prom.  Guests must have guest passes for ALL dances.  Passes can be acquired from the administration at least 5 days prior to the dance.  Guests must be of high school age.

PEP DANCES:

These dances are to recorded music.  The dress is casual.  Students may come alone or with a date.  Students must present their student identification card to be admitted.   The admission is discounted for students with valid ASB cards

HOMECOMING:

The Homecoming Dance takes place after the Homecoming football game.  Although the structure differs from year to year, it is generally a dance where couples dress alike.  Professional pictures are available.

PROM:

The prom, sponsored by the junior class, is a formal dance that occurs in the spring.  Prom royalty is determined by vote and recognized at the dance.  Only those who are juniors or seniors and those who have junior or senior dates are allowed to attend.

EVENING EVENTS:

Several times during the school year the ASB sponsors evening events at no cost.  Guest passes are required.
