Challenge:
To build a device that resists sliding down an inclined wooden ramp.
Materials:
2 4" x 6" Index Cards
2 pipette tips
2 mini-pipettes
2 small paper clips
2 small corks
2 toothpicks
a minimal amount of glue
Limitations:
Device must rest on ramp.
Any glue used to construct device must be completely dry before testing.
Device must be able to resist sliding down a wooden ramp at a minimum angle of 30 degrees.
Device may consist ONLY of supplied materials
Device weight must not exceed 0.15N
Device must have an acceptable NAME
Testing:
Preliminary design must be presented in a rough draft three-view drawing before materials are dispensed.
Device will be measured and analyzed to determine if it meets the basic construction requirements stated above.
Device will be placed at the top of a wooden ramp set at an incline of 30 degrees.
Device must not slide down the ramp at 30 degrees.
Ramp will be elevated until device slides down ramp.
Data:
Physical characteristics of your device must be collected (height, length, depth, mass, weight, etc)
Physical dimensions of your device must be detailed in a three-view drawing.
Ramp angle must be determined.
Scoring:
20 pts: Basic expectations met
0 to 5+ pts: Additional points will be rewarded based on the following formula:
[ Ramp Angle - 30 ] / 6 = Additional Points
