CALIFORNIA SCIENCE TRIP 2008

40+ MBJH students are in the Bay Area for the fifteenth annual California Science Trip.  Follow their adventures and see the pictures here!

REPORT FROM BASE CAMP - Principal Derek Forbes discusses the rising need for post-secondary education and the rising cost of college, upcoming parent/teacher conferences, and WASL testing.

CAN'T AFFORD COLLEGE? - Read on for information about a new scholarship geared towards low-income 7th and 8th graders.

MOUNT BAKER JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL COMPOSTING NEWS - During the month of March, Mount Baker’s Jr/Sr High Campus removed 60 garbage cans full of food waste and compostable materials from their garbage dumpster through composting. Composting on the Deming Campus has allowed us to reduce our garbage and contribute to the production of a useful material used in Whatcom County. This school year alone our District has diverted over 180 cubic yards (about the size of 2 large school buses) of compostable waste from the landfill! Estimated District savings from composting is over $2000.00. Thank you to all the students, staff and parents that help with the composting process at our school.

BUS PASSES - If a student needs to get off at a bus stop different than their own, they need to bring a note to the office signed by their parent/guardian.  Please include the address if they are not getting off with another student, such as getting off at a grandparent’s house.  The office staff will then give the student a green bus slip to get off at that stop.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO RAISE GRADES - ‘After Hours’ is a homework help night that is available every Wednesday in room 212 from 2:45 to 4:45pm.  Students must bring a completed agenda and enough work to keep them busy for the entire time.  Students are not allowed to leave early unless their parent picks them up at the office.  Athletes can come for half the time and then return to practice if they have made prior arrangements with their coaches.

VIEW GRADES ONLINE - FAMILY ACCESS

Parents and students have both received logins and passwords in the fall.  If you have misplaced your information, please contact the main office to get your login and/or password.

Users will be able to see grades, assignments, attendance records, and check messages from teachers.

SCHOOL PERFORMANCE REPORT FOR MOUNT BAKER JUNIOR HIGH - OSPI provides a "report card" for every school in the state.  WASL scores and demographic data about our district are provided.  Follow this link to get data about MBJH.

WHATCOM ALLIANCE FOR HEALTHCARE ACCESS - Does your family need access to affordable health care?  The Mount Baker School District has partnered with WAHA and DSHS to help families access affordable health care for children.
