Goal 1

Increase student learning in all of the essential learning areas

1.1 Math objective: increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the state math standards from the current 34.1%

  1. Work to improve consistency and instructional quality in the classroom
  2. Work with elementary schools and high school to improve alignment and transition
  3. Engage in focused staff development to support reading and writing in math and accountability in skill development

1.2   Reading objective:  increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the state reading standards from the current 42.2%

  1. Improve comprehension and vocabulary instruction across our  program
  2. Support direct reading instruction in the seventh and eighth grades
  3. Broaden use of Literature Circle strategies among core teachers.

1.3   Writing objective: increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the state writing standards from the current 59.3%

  1. Implement and support the district adoption in the area of student writing
  2. Implement school wide expectations for conventions, spelling and peer revision
  3. Implement district writing assessment and use it to guide instruction

1.4   Science objective:  increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the state science standards from the current 32.1%

  1. Examine current practices in science teaching and learning.  Establish baseline data.
  2. Develop connections to reading, writing and math

1.5   English Language Learning:  improve delivery model for ELL services in line with student need

  1. Effectively use resources made available due to increased ELL student load
  2. Provide effective staff development to junior high staff in best practices in ELL instruction.

Improve climate for all students and adults at the Junior High

2.1   Campus safety

3.1 Professional goals

  1. Implement a team leader organizational model to facilitate good decision making in the area of staff development
  2. Use LID and waiver days for focused activities necessary for teachers to be successful.

3.3 Check existing resources for alignment to school improvement goals.
