Special Parent/Guardian Meeting Part of the monthly parent meetings this fall have included beginning a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to help provide resources to our students at MBJH. Officers must be chosen in order to begin fundraising as a non profit organization. Waiting until December 14th to select officers (president, vice-president, secretary/treasurer) doesn’t allow for time to fundraise before Winter Break. We hope to see many of you at our special meeting on the 23rd. If you have additional questions, please contact Derek Forbes
Want to join ART CLUB? or Engineering Design and Manufacturing Club ? On Tuesday, students met with Mr. Forbes to learn more about two new clubs we are starting next week. Both clubs will take place on Tuesdays from November 24th to January 19th from 2:45 to 4:45. Students can take the late bus home. The Art Club focus for this activity season will be pottery and ceramics. Mr. Stensgar will be the advisor. This activity season, the Engineering Design and Manufacturing Club will complete activities that include building a CO2 car, building and then breaking a bridge. Mr. Smith will be the advisor. Students will need to pay their ASB fee and a supplies fee as part of joining the club. Space is limited for both clubs. If a student is interested, s/he can print off and fill out the enrollment form, or pick up a form in the main office. AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES - Currently students can play various sports throughout the school year, and perform in the play in the 3rd activity season. While we have a high percentage of students who are involved in one or more activities during the year, we want to increase that percentage by providing more opportunities for students. Earlier this week we asked students of some possible activities they would like to do after-school. The results of those surveys created a list of seven activities to pursue.
To move forward with any of these clubs we need to know of possible resources available in our community. If you know of materials or supplies that would be available for the school or can provide some time and expertise in a particular area please contact me at school. We would like to have these opportunities available to students beginning in November. We want to find as many ways a possible for students to become connected to school and hope that the new clubs will help contribute to that. BOX TOPS 4 EDUCATION - We are continuing to collect Box Tops. Please bring them to the office. REPORT FROM BASE CAMP - MBJH Principal Derek Forbes introduces some of the things you'll see around the school this year.
AWARDS ASSEMBLIES - Read on for a description of the various awards that are given at the awards assemblies. GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO RAISE GRADES - ‘After Hours’ is a homework help night that is available every Wednesday in room 212 from 2:45 to 4:45pm. Students must bring a completed agenda and enough work to keep them busy for the entire time. Students are not allowed to leave early unless their parent picks them up at the office. Athletes can come for half the time and then return to practice if they have made prior arrangements with their coaches.
STUDENTS STAYING AFTER SCHOOL - Students are allowed to stay after school only if pre-arranged with a staff member or involved in an after-school activity. Students who do stay after school must be in a supervised area. Supervised areas would include a teacher’s classroom, Wednesday After Hours, or the library. Students who stay in the library must have a library pass from one of their teachers. If a student needs to take the late bus home, the staff member supervising them will give them a late bus pass. If a student is found on campus after school unsupervised, they will receive an office referral (which could result in an after school detention) and will be directed to the office to call their parent/guardian to make arrangements for transportation home. Thank you for helping in keep our students safe. MBSD ACTIVITY CALENDAR AVAILABLE - This is the online .pdf version of the 2009-2010 District Activity Calendar.
