 SENIOR HONOR FESTIVAL

REHEARSAL:  Monday, October 29, 7-9 pm, Mount Baker HS

REHEARSAL AND CONCERT: Monday, November 5, all day & evening, MBHS

We are currently the host for this regional event.  This event is open only to selected students in grades 9-12.  The Honor Festival can be described as an "All-Star" Band.  Mr. Sutton will nominate 6 - 12 willing musicians that have proven to be exceptional musicians and responsible people.  Those who are selected will receive music to practice (three or four songs) for two or three weeks prior to the festival.  On the day of the festival these students will gather along with students from all High Schools in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties to rehearse high quality literature with a highly respected guest conductor for the day.  The day will culminate with a concert for the public that will include an honor choir and an honor orchestra.

SOLO/ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL

Saturday, January 26, all day

Mount Vernon High School

This event is open totally on a voluntary basis.  The Solo/Ensemble Festival is the opportunity to play a solo or in a small ensemble for a trained adjudicator.  Most practice will come outside of class.  Mr. Sutton will be available after school during much of January to help with the preparation.  Please look for more information about this in November.  Put this date on your calendar now if you are considering participation in Solo/Ensemble Festival

ALL-STATE BAND
February 15-18, 2002, Yakima

This fall you have an opportunity to audition (via cassette tape) for an honor band that covers a great area than the Senior Honor Festival.  The Washington Music Educators Association hosts an All-State Band that features the top high school musicians in the state.  Audition tapes are due in early October.

MOUNT BAKER BAND WEB SITE

2001-2002 PERMISSION FORM

Three years ago we began to create a World Wide Web Site for the Mountaineer Band, and it is beginning to expand to the entire Music Department.  We want to create a Web presence that, among other things, celebrates the history and the current success of our band program.  This web site may contain pictures, names, and even sound clips of our music for others to hear.

To do this, the form below must be filled out and signed by both student and parent/guardian.  Note that the procedure is to cross out any of the items that you do NOT want included on the web site.

Creating a web site requires advance planning.  We want to make sure that any pictures that we take do not include students who do not wish to have their picture on the Internet.  I would appreciate everyone’s cooperation in returning this form as soon as possible.  Thank you.

The school district has an extensive and informative web site, located at:

www.mtbaker.wednet.edu

Our music department web site is connected to this location at: www.mtbaker.wednet.edu/music - check it frequently for updates.
