INTRUDER ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

When any life-threatening situation is perceived to exist in the school, on the school grounds, or at school related activities including an injury to the head, for a student, a staff member, or another person, a building administrator or designee should take the following steps.

1.      Call 911 immediately.

2.      Do not move the person if a head or possible spinal injury is involved.

3.      Administer first aid and life-sustaining techniques, utilizing any trained staff.  Follow “head injury protocol (Accident Procedure Notebook)

4.      Call the parent or guardian immediately.  Refer to the locator card or student emergency card for information.

 

Other actions that you should take:

1.      If a parent or guardian cannot be reached:

·        Call other people who are listed on the locator/emergency card.

·        Call the parent's workplace of employment to notify their supervisor(s) of the situation.

·        If appropriate, contact a sibling or close relative/friend for additional information.

·        Have an adult accompany the student in an ambulance if parents are unable to.

Contact the District Office (x4600, x4602, x 4606 or x4601.)   Support will be provided and will also handle initial communication with the news media.  Refer all calls from the news media to the Superintendent or his designee.  All news releases will come from the central office.  The Superintendent or designee will be the spokesperson.
