RAPE

In cases of molestation, rape or suspected rape, the following procedures should take place:

  1.    Escort the victim to administrative or counseling office.

  2.    An administrator will contact the police department at:

·              Sumas:....................................... 988-5711

·              Everson:..................................... 966-4212

·              Whatcom County Sheriff............ 384-5360

  3.    Contact Child Protective Services at 800-398-4079 if the victim is a student.

  4.    Contact the Superintendent's office (x4600).

  5.    Encourage the victim to NOT wash until after speaking with law enforcement.

  6.    Document all steps taken.

  7.    Locate the student or staff member's emergency information and other records needed for law enforcement.

  8.    Call the parent, spouse or other individual listed on the locator or emergency card.

  9.    Accompany the victim to the hospital, if appropriate.

10.  Assist the police with as much information about the assailant and incident as possible.

Contact the District Office (x4600, x4602, x 4606 or x4601.)   Support will be provided and will also handle initial communication with the news media.  Refer all calls from the news media to the Superintendent or his designee.  All news releases will come from the central office.  The Superintendent or designee will be the spokesperson.
