Local scholarships are defined as scholarships available to Mt. Baker High School student's ONLY or to students who live in Whatcom Co. This will allow you to see all the scholarships that may be available during this school year. 

Please remember the information below may NOT be for the current school year! See above for details.

9/11 Border Memorial Scholarship $500 Applicant must be a graduating senior from Whatcom county. Selection is based on community involvement and a brief essay on "Patriotism and community involvement and your responsibility to it" as well as grades during their graduating year. 3/31/2007  
Accountants of Tomorrow Merit Scholarship $500 Whatcom County high school seniors who plan to pursue a four year degree in accounting (includes transfer degree students). Other criteria: leadership, academic performance, civic and personal achievement. 4/24/2009  
Allen Team Scholarship $500 Applicant must have attended Allen Elementary School in Bow, WA. Student must have a 3.0 GPA. Student must be planning to attend a Washington state school. 4/29/2004  
Alton J Grimes Memorial Theatre Scholarship varies Whatcom County senior planning to continue their education by majoring in Theatre Arts. Applicant must attend either a two year, four-year university program or conservatory program in acting, directing, musical or technical theatre. 4/1/2006  
American Business Women's Association Scholarship $1,000 Must be a female planning to attend either a technical school, community college or four-year university. Financial need and community involvement are also considered. 4/10/2009  
Bellingham Beauty School Scholarship $1,000 Any graduating Mt. Baker High School student who is planning to attend Bellingham Beauty School is eligible to apply for this scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded based on the Personal Narrative Essay that the applicant provides. 4/1/2009  
Bellingham Emblem Club #489 varies Applicant must be an Emblem Club #489 member; child, stepchild, grandchild or stepgrandchild or a current member pursuing higher education. 3/1/2003  
Boy Scout Troop 31 Scholarship varies Must be a graduating senior of MBHS who is an active member of Boy Scouts of America and plans to enroll in any post secondary educational program. 5/20/2003  
Brayton/Harshman Scholarship $500 Must be a graduating high school athlete who plans to continue his/her education at an accredited community college, college or university. 4/15/2009  
Chelsey Rae Ebert Memorial Scholarship $144 Applicant must be a female graduating senior who participated in high school girl's basketball. Student must be able to demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and community service. 4/16/2009  
Clarence Nyhus Scholarship varies Must be a MBHS student for at least 2 yrs. Applicant must be planning to attend a technical school, community college or university and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students attending a technical school. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year if student is making satisfactory progress toward certificate or degree. 4/20/2005  
Combat Veterans International Scholarship Fund $1,000 Applicant must be a son or daughter of a veteran of the US Military and be enrolled in a degree or certificate program at a four or two year university or at a technical college. 5/31/2009  
Community Volunteer Service Award varies Must be a high school senior with considerable volunteer community service. Other criterion considered is academic achievement, work experience, and school activities. Applicant must plan to attend a technical school, community college or four-year college. 3/16/2009  
Deming Logging Show Auxiliary Scholarship $300 Must be a senior from a Whatcom County high school planning to attend a technical college, community college or university. Preference given to students related to someone in the logging industry. Two scholarships will be awarded. 5/6/2009  
Dick Rightmire Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Applicant must be a State FFA Degree recipient who is planning to attend a 4-year university or 2-year community college or technical school pursuing an agricultural degree or certificate. 4/16/2007  
Dorothy Massie Scholarship varies Applicant must be a graduating senior from MBHS who has attended there for at least 2 years. Candidate must be of high moral character and show interest in scholarship and learning with serious plans for completion of higher education. Special consideration will be given to those planning to study science, mathematics, nursing or teaching. 4/30/2009  
Educational Opportunity Scholarship Program $1,000 Applicant must be a graduating high school senior planning to enroll full-time at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. Students must demonstrate financial need. 3/1/2006  
Elks Assoc. Vocational Grant $900 - $1,500 Applicants must be pursuing a degree or certificate from a community college or technical college. Applications will be judged on academics, citizenship, and financial need. Students must return their application to the Bellingham Elks Lodge No. 194, 710 Samish Way, Bellingham, WA 98229-2904. Elks- Most Valuable Student Award $4,000 - $60,000 Applicant must be a graduating senior. Financial need, leadership and scholarship are criteria by which students are judged. A parental financial statement, two letters of recommendation and an essay are required. Applications must be filed with your local Lodge. Everson Lions Academic & Vocational Scholarship varies Applicant must be Mt. Baker student planning to attend a technical school, community college or 4yr college and can demonstrate a high degree of community involvement. One vocational scholarship and one academic scholarship will be awarded. 5/4/2009  
Fallen Workers Scholarship $5,000 Applicants must be high school seniors planning to further their education at either a college, vocational or technical school. Student must write a 750 word essay on "What is the relevance of Unions Past & Present?" Applications are also available at: 3/1/2008 http://www.usw12-591.org
FOP Matt Herzog Memorial Scholarship $2,000 Applicant must be pursuing a career in, or related to Law Enforcement and planning to attend an accredited Washington state college or university. Requires (2) letters of recommendation. 5/30/2009  
Frank Geri Scholarship Foundation $4,800 Student must intend pursuing an education in Physical Education, Coaching or Recreation. 6/20/2003  
Future Teacher of Science Scholarship $1,000 - $2,000 Applicant must be planning to pursue a teaching degree within the K-12 school system with emphasis in science. They must also be accepted at one of the following schools: Whatcom Community College, Skagit Valley College, Everett Community College, Northwest Indian College or Western Washington University. This scholarship is renewable. 4/3/2006  
Giarde Scholarship Award $500 Must be a MBHS student planning further education at a technical school, community college or university. The applicant must exhibit high moral values, respect for teachers and students and be hard working. Financial need is a primary consideration. Great Clips for Hair Scholarship $500 Applicant must plan to attend any school of cosmetology or barbering with in the following counties: Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Island, Lewis, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Mason, Pierce, Snohomish, and Thurston. 5/15/2006  
Greater Bellingham Running Club Scholarship $1,000 Two scholarships are awarded to one qualified senior male and female runner from Whatcom County High Schools. The awards are not based on need but on merit. Extracurricular activities, GPA and letters of recommendation are required. 4/30/2009  
Information Technology Program Scholarship $500 Applicant must be a graduating senior who is enrolling at either BTC or WCC in one of the following programs: Computer Network, Software Support, Computer Info Systems, Computer Science, or Graphic Design. 5/1/2009  
Kiwanis Club of Bellingham $1,000 Scholarships awarded to students planning to attend technical college, community college, or four-year college or university. Applicants for the college or university award must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 and a minimum of 2.5 GPA for technical college applicants. 4/17/2009  
Kulshan Kiwanis Bill Bond Scholarship $500 Student must be enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university. Applicants will be judged on leadership, academic achievement, community service, extra-curricular activities and financial need. 4/28/2006  
Lois Jean Roberts Memorial Nursing Scholarship $1,500 Applicant must be a graduating senior pursuing certification as a Registered Nurse from a college or university. It may be renewed each year for up to three additional years, based upon continued success in a course of study leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse. Scholastic achievement, citizenship, leadership and self-reliance are other criteria. Requires 2 letters of recommendation. Application is available on-line. Miss Whatcom County Scholarship Program $1,500 Applicant must be female no less than a HS senior and a resident of Whatcom Co. Judging in the following areas: Community Achievement, Artistic Expression; Poise in Evening Wear, Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit. 11/15/2003  
Mount Baker Scholarship Foundation Scholarship varies A large number of individual scholarships are awarded. Applicant must be a Mt. Baker High School student planning to attend either a technical college, community college or a four-year university. Some scholarships will be awarded on merit others on financial need. Students need only fill out one application to be considered for ALL eligible scholarships. Mt. Baker Chapter (HOG) Scholarship $1,000 Applicant must be a graduating senior who is college or university bound. Applicant must have a guardian or close relative (only: parent, grandparent, uncle/aunt, sibling who owns a Harley Davidson motorcycle that is in working order) --it is not necessary that this relative or guardian live in Washington. 3/13/2009  
Mt. Baker Chapter PSE Scholarship $750 Applicant must be a Mt. Baker High School graduating senior who plans to attend a two-year or four-year college. 4/24/2009  
Mt. Baker Lions Club $500 Applicant must be a graduating senior from Mt. Baker High School planning to attending a technical training program. Academic performance, community service and school involvement are considered. Four scholarships will be awarded. 4/30/2009  
Mt. Baker Rotary Scholarship varies Applicants must have been involved in school activities, extra curricular and civic or social activities. Applicant must be planning to attend either a vocational college, community college, or a four year college. 4/15/2006  
Nooksack Tribal Council Scholarship $6,000 Applicant must be either an enrolled Nooksack Tribal member, a lineal descendant under the age of 25, or a spouse to qualify. Must maintain a 2.0 college GPA and have exhausted BIA Higher Education resources.    
Northwest Business Club Scholarship $1,000 Applicant must be a graduating senior who is willing to write a 500 word essay on the values and benefits to the public when elected officials serving our local communities practice policies and actions of fiscal conservatism. 5/2/2005  
Northwest Hawaii Ohana Scholarship $350 Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: Child of Hawaii high school graduate, Graduate of Hawaii high school, or a current member of Northwest Hawaii Ohana or dependent of a current member. 7/1/2003  
Northwest Washington Engineers Club $500 Applicants should be interested in the study of engineering, mathematics, or physical sciences and intend to pursue a career path in one of these areas. 5/16/2003  
Proudly Pro-Life Scholarship $500 Must be a current Whatcom County resident. Applicant must be a single parent, who is graduating from high school, and/or alternative school or receiving a GED while single parenting, who is planning to continue their education. 5/30/2007  
Randy Hansen Scholarship Fund $350 Three scholarships are awarded annually. Applicant must meet the following criteria: (1) have completed either their second year of undergraduate studies at an accredited college or university, or at least two quarters toward a certificate or degree at an accredited vocational or technical school, (2) establish a personal link with Whatcom county (you or your veteran grew up, attended school, lived in the county briefly, etc.) and (3) establish that you are either a Veteran, Legal spouse of a veteran, Child or step-child of a veteran, Grandchild of a veteran or other direct lineal descendant of a veteran through either parent. 8/1/2006  
Rome Grange Scholarship $500 Must be a student from Mt. Baker or a relative of either a past or present member of Rome Grange . Financial need, leadership and scholarship are the criteria. Requires 3 letters of recommendation. 5/11/2009  
Ronnie Juntunen & John C. Bust Memorial Vocational Educational Scholarship $500 Applicant must be a senior from MBHS planning to attend a technical college or community college technical training program. Financial need, desire and grade point are the top three criteria. 5/5/2009  
SISU Children's Fund Scholarship $1,000 Applicant must be a graduating senior going on for further education who has a medical condition or physical disability. Student must provide proof of their physical or medical disability. Letters of recommendation, personal statement, career goals and academic achievement needed. 5/1/2009  
Sons of the American Legion $500 There is one application for four separate scholarships: Legion Affiliate Scholarship; Vocational Scholarship; Agricultural Scholarship; College Scholarship. Student's overall academic records will be considered, with special consideration paid to their last two years in high school. Financial need is also considered. 5/1/2004  
Susan Anderson & Bob Tisdale Scholarship $500 Applicant must be a Mount Baker student. Criteria include student's athletic involvement, citizenship and GPA. Four awards are given annually. 5/29/2009  
Trans-Ocean Scholarship $750 Applicant must be a senior graduating from a Whatcom county school planning to continue their education at an accredited technical college, community college or university. 4/30/2009  
Whatcom Chapter Trout Unlimited Scholarship $750 Applicant must have enrolled in Advanced Natural Resources at MBHS for spring semester of their senior year and have been actively involved in the McKinnon Pond Steelhead Rearing Facility. Application includes an essay. Preference is given to students pursuing Natural Resources at a technical college, community college or four-year college. 5/4/2007  
Whatcom Chorale - David E. Clarke Memorial Scholarship $500 Must be a graduating senior planning to pursue a college degree in choral/vocal music or have vocal music as a major emphasis. Applicant must include a cassette tape withone or two vocal selections. 4/19/2006  
Whatcom County Association of Realtors Scholarship $1,000 Applicant must be planning to pursue a career in real estate or a related field such as banking, construction, architecture, engineering, property or land management. Student must plan to attend college or vocational school. 5/1/2003  
Whatcom County Cattlemen Agricultural Scholarship $500 Applicant must be graduating senior from a Whatcom County school and planning to further their education at an accredited school in the field of agriculture. 4/30/2008  
Whatcom County Farm Bureau Scholarship $500 Must be a son, daughter or legal dependent of a Farm Bureau family with a current membership. All majors accepted. 4/3/2009  
Whatcom County Master Gardener Foundation Scholarship $1,000 Applicant must be a resident of Whatcom county who is graduating from high school pursuing a degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Studies or a related field. Whatcom County Student Athlete Todd Curran Memorial Scholarship $5,000 Student must have been involved in some sports activity, community service with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Requires 3 letters of recommendation. 2/17/2010  
Whatcom County Student Service Scholarship $500 Plan to attend a 4yr college, community college or Vo/Tech school, have a GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated service to school, community or church. 4/24/2003  
Whatcom County Youth Soccer Assoc. Academic Scholarship varies Student must be planning to further their education at a community college, technical school or 4 yr. university. They must have participated in the Whatcom County Youth Soccer Association and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. 5/7/2008  
Whatcom Educational Credit Union Scholarship $500 Must be a member, or related to a member of WECU and planning to attend either Whatcom Community College or Bellingham Technical College, have at least a 2.75 GPA and be working towards an Associate Degree. 3/31/2003  
Whatcom Hispanic Organization $500 Student with an Hispanic/Latino background who demonstrate school or community involvement and is enrolled at least half-time at an accredited VoTech, CC or 4yr college or univ. 3/1/2006  
Whatcom Tech Prep IT Scholarship $500 Applicant must be planning to attend either Whatcom Community College or Bellingham Technical College and working to complete a degree in one of the following areas: BTC: Computer Network Tech, Computer Software Support, Technical Sales Specialist, Electronics, Engineering. WCC: Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or Graphic Design Applications must be typed and are available on the Tech Prep website. WSYSA District 1 Soccer Scholarship $1,000 Must be a senior who is currently registered on a District I team and lives within the District I boundaries. Applicant must be planning to attend technical college, community college or a four-year college or university. 5/15/2007
