INDIAN EDUCATION PROGRAM

MOUNT BAKER SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Indian Education Program provides assistance to Native American students, their teachers and parents. Learning Assistants are employed at the elementary and secondary levels. Major program goals are to:

  1. Provide academic support to students in need,
  2. Encourage and assist Native American students to remain in school, to complete a suitable high school program and to make long-range goals.
  3. Act as liaisons between the school and Native American community, with an emphasis on communication between home and school.

The Indian Education staff can help design and implement plans for academic concerns, motivational problems, attendance, social behavior, personal and family problems. The program also provides a network for accessing resources and information related to the Native American culture. Federal formula grant funds are the primary funding source of this program.
