Frequently Asked Questions
“How does the School Safety Initiative benefit my
child, family, and community?”
The
School Safety Initiative provides opportunities for kids and
families to learn life-saving skills, to engage in service
opportunities, and to increase the overall community’s preparedness
to respond to a disaster. American Red Cross services and
information is brought right into the Mount Baker School District
community, so you don’t have to travel far away from home to
participate.
“Why is the School Safety Initiative important?”
Schools, families, and communities face safety issues on a daily
basis. Some accidents, injuries and even acts of violence can be
avoided; in others the control exists only in how to respond. When
young people learn skills in first aid, disaster preparedness, and
humanitarian principles, the community is better equipped to save
lives and promote safer ways of living. The Red Cross can also help
a school to update their school disaster plan on a regular basis,
which promotes confidence and peace of mind for the community.
The Red
Cross is committed to prevention, preparedness, and response. The
School Safety Initiative is our way of including schools in this
commitment.
