Many if not all of our schools have won awards from the Department of Ecology from 1996 through 2008. These awards were presented to schools in our district for their excellence in waste reduction, pollution prevention and sustainable practices. In 1997 the Mount Baker School District won the Weyerhaeuser Excellence in Recycling Award, and in 2003 we were chosen for the Governor’s Award for Pollution Prevention and Sustainable Practices. In May of 2007 our school district was named Recycler of the Year K-12 at the Washington State Recycling Association's annual conference. We were also the first school district in Whatcom County to sign the Whatcom Watershed Pledge.
