CONTESTS

In order to promote and encourage recycling and waste reduction in our district buildings and staff, classrooms compete with each other for being the best recycler in the school. Winning classrooms receive treats or prizes made from recycled materials.

Weekly questions or puzzles focus on sustainable practices. Can you guess the message behind this rebus puzzle (follow the link)?  Staff and students scoring the highest number of correct answers for the rebus puzzles were given prizes at the end of last school year.

Previous contest winners received recycled cotton bags (right) painted by a student artist or reusable lunch bags made from organic cotton and tagged with valuable information (below).  Click on the pictures to see larger images.

Our district has a recycling fairy that travels through the offices and classrooms after hours to make sure recycling has not been placed in the garbage cans.  Pink fairy tickets are left for those recycling correctly – a gray garbage grump ticket is left for those who don’t! Pink tickets are turned in at the end of the school year for a drawing.
