Mount Baker School District Technology Committee

January 18, 2005, 4:00 pm, District Office

Members Present:  Gary Wall, Max Duncan, Sher Ross, Doug Sutton, Jim Frey

1) Budget

The beginnings of budget development were discussed.  The Tech Committee’s beginning budget for the year is $48,505.  The current balance is $36,716.  We must budget for:

bulletTech committee stipends –
bulletWebmaster -
bulletTech Mentors -
bulletBuilding Tech Support -
bulletCurriculum Coaches -
bulletMB Institute -
bulletESD 189 training for tech committee -
bulletTLP School Training -
bulletHard Drive Duplicator -

Gary will research the costs involved in these items (and make sure they appropriately come from this budget) and will present this information for our next meeting.

2) Database

Doug presented some uses of databases.  A discussion ensued regarding how we use data, how we could use data, what are the correct tools for any given setting, etc.  Do we need to be able to design databases?  Do we need to be aware of how they work and make them available when staff and students might make good use of them?

Question:  How will our ability to design or use databases increase student learning?  Answer: Effective use of already available databases could increase student learning by decreasing time teachers have to spend in management and recording of assessment. Learning to design and build databases is probably best limited to the few who have interest and time to do so.”

3)  Next Meeting:  Tuesday, February 15 – 4:00 pm – District Office  - Prime topic:  Budget

Respectfully Submitted,

Doug Sutton
