The Internet as a Research Tool

 

 

 

A. Browser Skills

 

Log onto the Internet and open the 'Digital Tools' website.  Examine the home page paying attention to color, font etc. If you have access to another browser check out the page using a different browser and monitor. While your are at it, learn the following internet terminology: URL, Home Page, Search engines, Internet browsers, Refresh, Bookmark, Cookies, Hypertext. Verification:  send email to djtuck@home.com saying you completed the assignment.

Use the following buttons to navigate through the 'Digital Tools'  webpage: Back, Forward, Home, Link, Refresh and Stop.  Bookmark this page as a 'favorite'. Verification: Same as above

Check to see what version of browser you are using. Determine if there is a newer version of your browser available and, if so, download this latest version from the Internet. Verification: Same as above

Create a series of lessons that will enable your students to use an internet browser effectively.  Verification: send a copy of the lesson to djtuck@home.com

B. Internet Searching

 

Participate in a grade-level discussion on the TLCF website 'Discussion Corner' at least once a month.  Verification: We will check the website

Become familiar with some search engines by completing the Digital Tools Internet Searching Task Sheet. Verification: Send a copy of your answers to the task sheet to djtuck@home.com

Download a new interesting program from the internet (like from shareware.com), save the program to a file, and run the program.  Make a shortcut to the desktop. Verification: Write a short summary critique of the program and send as an email attachment to djtuck@home.com

Create an internet curriculum map for your 'place study' using Word, Excel, or Inspiration. Organize the map by concepts or topics and create html links to key websites for these concepts or topics in your 'place study'. Verification: send a copy of the map to djtuck@home.com

Create a series of lessons that will enable your students to become intelligent web searchers.  Verification: send a copy of the lesson to djtuck@home.com
