Creating a Digital Project-based Classroom

 

 

 

Create and implement a digital skill building unit early in the school year for students to learn file management, computer usage, imaging, tools (camera, scanner, flexcam, PalmPilot) and internet research. Verification: Send a copy of your outline and any skill worksheets that students will use.

Physically arrange your classroom so that students can use the digital technology in a "multi-tasking" mode.  Encorporate the "daily five" into your classroom management plan. Verification: Send a drawing or explanation of your special features. Complete the Project-based Task Sheet now.

Design and implement a classroom project that requires students to 1) conduct their own research on a student-driven topic; 2) ask, answer and assign meaning to their own questions (including an overall project question; 3) collaborate with other students (and teacher); 4) manage project resources; 5) collect usable data (information) related to their project topic and display that data; 6) arrive at conclusions about their project; 7) present their work to the class on a regular basis; and 8) create a final multimedia product of their project work.  This task can be part of your ‘place’ study work. Verification: Send a summary to djtuck@home.com outlining how you designed and implemented these 8 tasks.

Use a task performance rubric that is clearly defined to monitor and assess student progress through their place study investigations. Employ clearly defined regular methods to assess student progress. Provide a method for students to assess and evaluate their own project progress. You may use the Project-based Assessment Rubric  that is part of our Digital Tools Assessment package if you want. Verification: Send a summary of your assessment results, of the rubric if it is different that the Digital Tools rubric, and a copy of any self-assessment rubric that students use to djtuck@home.com
