Content

Everything on the page helps the reader to understand your project site.  Information is detailed and concise.  There is not too much text, but enough to get your information across.  There is a good balance between text and images.  The page has substance!

The elements on the page contribute to an adequate understanding of your project site.  There may be too much or not enough text, or not a good balance between images and text.  Information is detailed but not presented in a concise manner. 

There is not enough information on the page to develop a good understanding of your project site.  There are lots of images and not enough information or not enough details.  The page has lots of “bells and whistles” but no substance. 

Images

Images are carefully chosen to help the enhance understanding of your site.  They are clearly explained with captions and are related to the text on the page.  Images are appropriately sized (the file size is small enough to download quickly, and the reader does not have to scroll to see the entire image).

Images are related to the text on the page, but captions are not detailed enough.  Images files have not been resized and take too long to download.  The reader may have to scroll over to see part of the image, or the image is too large to be seen all at once on the screen.

Images don’t seem to be connected to the information on the page, or have vague captions.  Images are included that do not help the reader to understand the project site.  Files are not resized.  The reader must scroll to see the images.

Color and Contrast

The design colors (background and text) are pleasing and enhance the presentation. It is easy to read.  The colors complement the images.

The color is interesting, but it does not add to the presentation.  The colors may not complement the images.  The text is easy to read.

Colors are poorly chosen, detracts from the text or clashes with the images on the page.  Colors chosen make the text difficult to read.

Alignment and Proximity

Pages are neat and the position of objects and images helps the reader to understand the information.

Pages are neat, but images are not placed in such a way that they complement the text.

Pages are cluttered.  Images are not placed logically or are not related to the text. 

Organization of Content and Links

Pages and links are logical, and the sequence is intuitive.  The organization enhances understanding of the information being presented.

Information is presented in a sequence that makes some sense, but does not add to overall understanding of the information.  Links for navigation may not be intuitive. 

Sequence of the information of the page skips around and causes confusion.  Links are not logical, not intuitive, or missing.

Special Features

Appropriate use of features such as themes, backgrounds, animations, and other special features enhance the presentation.  They do not clutter the page or distract from the information.

Special features are used, but neither add or detract from the presentation.  They are not annoying or distracting.

Special features distract the reader from the information.  They clutter the page and do not enhance the design.  (If they do this, you are better off leaving them off the page!) 

Mechanics

Pages are free of spelling and grammatical errors.

Presentation has a few spelling or grammatical errors, but they do not distract the reader from the information.

Pages have enough spelling and grammatical errors to distract the reader from the information.
